Just Andersen was born in Greenland in 1884 but moved to Denmark for his studies in 1912 where he attended the School of Danish Crafts and learnt under Jens Moller Jensen. At the outset of his career, Andersen worked as a silversmith and went on to set up his own company, Just Andersen Pewter, in 1918. Andersen invented an alloy he called Disko (named after Disko Bay where he grew up in Greenland) that proved to be a popular and more cost effective alternative to bronze. The exact recipe to this unique alloy is unknown therefore has only been used by Just Andersen's workshop. His popularity led to him having showrooms in Berlin, New York, Los Angeles and London.
