Large Specimen Slab of Marble
About this piece
A Large Specimen Slab of Marble
Cut in the Nineteenth Century.
Provenance: From a West Country house.
This monumental specimen of marble is "Bardiglio Capella' from Carrara, in Tuscany. The untouched surface has a rough textured feel having been stored outside since the mid-twentieth century.
The reverse of the slab shows four shadow marks where the table stood on four square topped legs - long ago lost - and the closest comparable examples are the Bantry House tables held by Ronald Phillips
