About this piece
France, circa 1795
With original leather seat with stitched detailing around border, the curule-form frame with front and back posture, connected by lower stretchers and leather-wrapped arm-shafts ending with ball finials, the finely realised steel frame with slender scrolling upper arms leading to acanthus covered x-framed leg sections ending with cleft hooves, the surface a wonderful layered story of silvered gilt, bronzing and later varnishing. Please note that the leather seat has been backed to strengthen and retain the original material, including new leatherwork to the shafts
