Pair of 17th Century Italian Applique Wall Hangings


About this piece

Applique on velvet, with checked geometric border with flame stitch surrounding stylised floral decoration; the large blue and pink flower in the centre near the top and the similar centrally placed large flower near the bottom being irises, the pair of yellow flowers two-thirds down being daffodils and the large central pink flowers probably being poppies. Both panels are mounted on stretchers

The V&A has a very similar 17th Wall Hanging in its collection (5th image), with geometric border and floral decoration
