'Wood turned to Stone'
This is a fossil of wood preserved over thousands of years, through a process called petrification, when trees or similar plants are suddenly buried by sediment and the microbes that normally cause wood to rot are destroyed
Over time various minerals replace organic matter, forming a stone 'mould' of the wood and as can be seen with this example, even the cell structure and grain inside is visible
