Beehive Pendant Light, Model A332
by Alvar Aalto
£32,000
Code

Manufactured by Valaistustyo Ky, Helsinki, Finland, circa 1950
Black painted aluminium and polished brass, stamped by maker with model number
Constructed from six overlapping rings, this is an early example of the model A332, being a much rarer model than the A331 with five rings
The Beehive light, designed by Finnish architect and designer Alvar Aalto in 1953, is a celebrated piece of modernist lighting. Officially known as the A331 pendant light, it is affectionately dubbed the "Beehive" due to its distinctive, layered shape reminiscent of a beehive.
The design features a series of stacked, concentric metal rings, typically made of aluminium, which diffuse light softly and evenly. The rings are separated by narrow gaps, allowing light to filter through and create a warm, ambient glow.
