Dahlin Otto

Biography

Born 1863 in Lindhult, Otto Dahlin was a Swedish furniture dealer and the founder of his own furniture house of the same name in Stockholm.

After working various jobs for money in the 1880's he moved to Stockholm in 1890 and started a small business for household utensils three years later. As the business grew he opened a furniture shop down the road, where the Konserthuset Stockholm stands today, and many more smaller branches under the same name; AB Otto Dahlin.

By 1930 the company was taking part in furnishing apartments at  Stockholmsutställningen, a national exhibition of architecture, design and handicrafts, organized by the Swedish Craft Association (now Svensk Form) and the city of Stockholm.

For several years AB Otto Dahlin published catalogs which featured the company's pieces, their signature being recognisable in their use of wood and wicker.

Funnily, it was found that members of the Swedish royal family would buy wooden toys from AB Otto Dahlin from their store on Sveavägen, a busy main street running through Stockholm city.

Dahlin passed away in Stockholm on February 5, 1960.
