About this piece
England, circa 1720
The early 18th Century rectangular frame with arched crest and quadruple bevelled borders with gilt decorated fillets, retaining the original mirror plates, the top section with a small crack and 19th repair discolouring
This beautifully understated mirror displays all the sophisticated simplicity of the finest early Queen Anne examples, in which the design is subdued to give full prominence to the large expanse of mercury glass. An unusual detail that also underlines the quality of the glass is the quadruple bevel, which would have glittered in the candlelight, emphasising the frame's shape and array of angled surfaces
