Both lamps with a quatrefoil base decorated in finely cast vine leaves and grapes leading to the column in the form of a twisted vine branch intertwined with leaves surmounted by a canopy of vine leaves.
A similar pair of lamps carrying the same twisted branch and leaf column sold at Christie's in 2008 (lot 602 in sale number 7452 A Town House in Mayfair) for £21,250. However, the same model as these lamps was sold at Neal Auction in 2007 with the original burner intact which was labelled (MESSENGER & SONS / 63 / HATTON GARDEN LONDON / & / BIRMINGHAM")
