Courtray Victor

Biography

Victor Courtray was a French designer, who studied at the Ecole Boulle, graduating in 1914. Four years later Courtray begins a collaboration with Maurice Dufrêne, and then with Paul Follot who is the director of the Bon Marché's workshop, Pomone.?Later, he designs furniture for the DIM company and exhibits at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and at the Salon d'Automne.

After this Parisian adventure, he moves to the South-West of France. If his early output is characterized by the Art Déco style, his discovery in 1924 of Biarritz, Bayonne, Bordeaux, Pau and Dax, inspires him towards a new direction, developing 'Neo-basque.'?The same year, he opens his own design house, which becomes very successful.
